Dr. (Prof.) Binod Khaitan, MD (AIIMS), | FAMS | FIMSA | stands tall in the field of dermatology as a decorated clinician, researcher, and teacher. He comes with decades of knowledge and experience, having diligently served for over 36 years at AIIMS (New Delhi).
Professor Khaitan is the proud recipient of the professional accolades from his peers in dermatology viz. Professor KC Kandhari Award; Prof. LK Bhutani Memorial Teaching & Research Award; Dr B M Ambadi Oration, Prof JC Shroff Memorial Award; Manav Seva Ratna Award for ‘Outstanding Service in the Field of Dermatology’.
Professor Khaitan’s particular areas of interest and expertise are pigmentary disorders like vitiligo,
papulosquamous disorders (such as psoriasis), vesiculobullous diseases (such as pemphigus), connective tissue disorders, and chronic dermatoses.
His prolific research in these areas led to the authorship of an impressive oeuvre of around 200 scientific articles, chapters, and monographs (including ‘Current Literature Dermatology’, ‘Clinical Methods in Dermatology and Venereology’, ‘ICMR Standard Treatment Workflows’ for common cutaneous conditions, amongst others), which have significantly advanced our understanding of the field. Many of his authored works are now part of the standard curriculum for any budding dermatologist.
During the course of his career, he has identified and characterized previously unrecognised clinical entities; established the clinical criteria to diagnose segmental vitiligo, and identified its distinct clinical patterns. He has also been critical in rationalizing the approach to monitor and treat chronic diseases like vitiligo, lichen simplex chronicus, alopecia areata, pemphigus, and various allergic disorders.
Patient well-being has always been of paramount importance to Professor Khaitan, and he is known to serve them with the utmost diligence and compassion. His focus on empathetic and holistic clinical care has earned him the respect and affection of patients, students, and colleagues alike – with the latter electing him as the President of the Faculty Association of AIIMS (FAIIMS).
Professor Khaitan’s passion for clinical care has only increased over the years, and he joins the Fortis family in the hope to continue serving his patients, both old and new, with his trademark empathy and compassion.
