Jaipur, February 09 2022: Doctors at Fortis Jaipur saved the life of a Covid positive patient by immediate medical intervention. The patient had a medical history of piles and at the time of admission, he was bleeding excessively with low hemoglobin. Considering his critical state, the doctors decided to go ahead with a blood transfusion before the surgery. The patient was admitted under Dr. Hemendra Sharma, Senior Consultant, Laparoscopic and Laser Surgery at the hospital. Further diagnosis revealed that the patient was Covid positive, which made the case even more complicated.

Dr Hemendra Sharma, Senior Consultant, Laparoscopic and Laser Surgery at the hospital, said, “The patient’s Hemoglobin was just 5 gm/L, so prior to the surgery we had to immediately conduct the blood transfusion. However, further investigations revealed that the patient was Covid positive. In such situations, we don't generally recommend surgery till the patient tests Covid negative. Seeing the patients deteriorating condition, we had to immediately opt for emergency surgery to prevent excessive bleeding and operated the piles. Any delay in the surgery could have led to other health complications. The bleeding stopped after the surgery and the patient is doing much better. I would like to thank Dr. Rajeev Lochan Tiwari, Director of Anaesthesia and his team because without their support, the operation would have been much more challenging for us.”
