Fortis Conducts National Scientific Update Programme
The Fortis Hospitals, Bangalore conducted a National scientific update programme for the cardiopulmonary Perfusionists of India. This day long programme was organized by Dr Vivek Jawali, chairman, Cardio vascular sciences & medical advisory council, Fortis Hospitals & Dr Murali Chakravarthy, Director Anesthesia & head, ICUs, Fortis Hospitals. More than 150 Perfusionists from across India had attended the workshop.
Brain Protection Cessation of heart and lung activities, Preservation of heart tissue during transport for heart transplantation, Artificial Heart & Lung support during serious non-cardiac illnesses and major non-cardiac Surgeries and Advances in the pure sciences in this area were some of the important topics that were discussed in the workshop.
Perfusionists are the technical experts, who control the artificial heart and lung machines during the open heart surgeries. Perfusionists manage artificial heart-lung as well as in a serious lung failure cases like suffering with lung infections, major poisonings or diseases that can cause respiratory paralysis or in patients suffering with serious heart failure where the heart is about to stop, threatening death.
A national science quiz programme for the Perfusionists was also held during this meeting. “We believe that this workshop would have cleared the doubts of most of the Perfusionists, they will be able to apply the same on the patients and thus can bring quality to medical practice in the country,” said Dr. Vivek Jawali, chairman, Cardio vascular sciences & medical advisory council at Fortis Hospitals.
