Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI) CME on Path-breaking in Cardiology attended by 300 doctors in Jaipur
Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI), India’s first fully dedicated cardiac care facility, pioneer and Centre of Excellence in Cardiac Care for over 25 years, held the first CME in Jaipur. This was a step towards extending the highest levels of skills in clinical excellence of the teams of doctors at FEHI across multiple branches of Cardiac care. The event saw the participation of Dr. Anil Saxena, Director Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology; Dr. Atul Mathur, Chief Cardiac Cath Lab & Director Interventional Cardiology; Dr. Nishith Chandra, Director Interventional Cardiology and Dr. Vishal Rastogi, Sr. Consultant Interventional Cardiology.
FEHI has pioneered a significant number of firsts in cardiac care – the implant of dissolvable stents was launched first in the country in FEHI two years ago; the Institute conducted its first heart transplant where the green corridor was created for the heart that was transferred in a record of 29 minutes travel time from source to FEHI; the first Subcutaneous ICD in Asia was implanted at FEHI; and FEHI doctors have created path breaking trends in management of high cholesterol in the body.
The highlights of the CME were the talks delivered by each expert on the latest technological developments in their respective areas of expertise.
Dr. Atul Mathur, Chief Cardiac Cath Lab & Director Interventional Cardiology spoke on dissolvable stents enumerating the benefits of the technological development in cardiac care. He said, “We have conducted nearly 2000 angioplasties to implant the dissolvable stents in Indian patients. Blood vessels of the heart get clogged because of the build-up of cholesterol. The dissolvable stents are the latest advance in this field, where the blockage is cleared by non surgical means. The stent is made up of material similar to that goes into the sutures used in operations. And so, these scaffolds dissolve in about two year's time after leaving a clear passage for blood flow.”
Speaking on the first Subcutaneous ICD, Dr. Anil Saxena, Director Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology said, “S-ICD lead is implanted along the rib cage and breast bone. It is found to have success rates comparable to conventional ICDs, with lower complication rates. Another major breakthrough with this device is that it can be implanted in pediatric patients, as young as two years of age, offering better application in this segment. As it is implanted subcutaneously, it can also be a huge relief for diabetics who have to opt for this as it has a smaller and faster window to recovery.”
Sharing information on path breaking developments in cholesterol management, Dr. Nishith Chandra, Director Interventional Cardiology said, “Latest path breaking trends in the management of high cholesterol have changed the management of lipids in the body. This can significantly change the lives of patients and contribute to the longevity of their lives.”
Dr. Vishal Rastogi, Sr. Consultant Interventional Cardiology said, “Heart transplantation is the final frontier in heart surgery. After the heart transplant we performed at FEHI patients across India, especially North India, will have easy access to another lifesaving treatment of the heart. We have created a registry of patients for patients from all over India who can come to us for heart transplant.
Dr. Somesh Mittal, Zonal Director, FEHI, said, “Fortis Escorts Heart Institute is really proud to have highly skilled doctors unparalleled in every area of cardiac care. The doctors are vastly experienced and have pioneered several cardiac techniques to produce results that are comparable to the best in the world. We continue to perform to the optimised levels of expertise and to offer the best medical solutions in clinical excellence to our patrons who have continued to place their trust in our organization. ”
