FORTIS HOSPITAL CONDUCTS AN AWARENESS SESSION ON THE IMPORTANCE OF TIMELY TREATMENT FOR STROKE PATIENTS

October 29, 2022: On World Stroke Day, Fortis Hospital, Anandpur, conducted a session to educate people about stroke along with the importance of timely treatment. The session, which was led by Dr Manoj Kumar Mahata, Consultant, Neurology, Anandpur, focused on the identification of stroke symptoms and types, lifestyle suggestions to prevent stroke, and how to treat patients who have had a stroke.

During the session, the doctor also emphasized on the importance of F.A.S.T which is an acronym used to detect signs and symptoms in a person having a stroke.

• F = Face Drooping (deviation of angle of mouth on one side)
• A = Arm Weakness (weakness of one side/part of the body)
• S = Speech Difficulty (slurring of speech)
• T = Time to head to the hospital immediately (time is precious for stroke treatment initiation)

The event was attended by more than 50 participants from in and around the vicinity, which also included nurses, medical staff, and doctors from various departments.

Commenting on the importance of such sessions for stroke awareness, Dr Manoj Kumar Mahata, Consultant, Neurology, Fortis Hospital, Anandpur, said, "Awareness about stroke is quite low amongst people, which is why stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in our country. When it comes to treating stroke patients, family and loved ones can play a critical role because if they recognize the symptoms early and seek immediate medical care, they can save lives and improve patient’s life”

World Stroke Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the severe nature and high stroke rates, discuss prevention and treatment, and ensure better care and support for survivors. Additionally, this day is also a chance to advocate for action at regional and national levels so that steps are taken to improve stroke prevention, access to acute treatment, and support for survivors and caregivers.
