Surgeons at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Save a Young Brave Heart in a Lifesaving Heart Transplant Surgery
Cementing its position as the preferred center for Paediatric Cardiac Care in Western India, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, conducted yet another successful heart transplant on a 16yr old girl, today. This is the 4th Paediatric Cardiac Heart Transplant and 16th overall heart transplant surgery to have taken place at the hospital after first such transplant took place in August, 2015.
The latest heart transplant gives a new lease of life to a girl from Ankleshwar, Gujarat who was suffering from Restrictive Cardiomyopathy. She was waitlisted at Fortis Hospital, Mulund for over a month. The donor heart came from a 46 year old female donor, from Satara, after her family consented to donate her Liver, Kidneys, Heart and corneas. The transplant became possible when the patient was declared brain dead at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune following a road traffic accident that resulted in a head injury. Retrieved by Dr Sanjeev Jadhav, Consultant CVTS Surgeon, Fortis Hospital, the donor heart was transported to Fortis Hospital, Mulund, in 1hr 9mins, covering a distance of 133.52kms.
